Oladen Consultancy Services Limited (“the Company”) is an engineering services company with a vision to become a leading engineering service Canada. The company also has a learning and development arm aim at providing capacity development in specialized areas of engineering design, process operations and project management. The company plans to begin operation in May 2022 with an initial focus on Saskatoon in Saskatchewan. Over the next five (5) years, the company plans to expand its operations into other provinces.

We are looking for a Chief Operating Officer (COO) to provide overall strategic direction for the Company and also oversee daily business operations. The COO will be responsible for implementing the Company’s business plan, supervising daily activities, monitoring performance, driving client acquisition and executing clients’ mandates. As the pioneer employee of the Company, the COO will also be responsible for hiring talents for all required positions and ensure the company’s compliance to regulatory and statutory requirements in Saskatchewan, in line with the Company’s business plan.

The candidate must have a strong strategic mind, excellent networking abilities and exceptional people skills. The successful candidate will demonstrate experience in guiding business operations and employees in similar organizations, to achieve corporate goals and objectives.

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in engineering discipline or natural sciences is required

Master’s degree in engineering or business administration is required

Canadian Citizen or Permanent resident

Professional Engineer or Eligible for registration as a Professional Engineer with APEGS

Minimum fifteen (15) years engineering work experience, with at least 8 years in an engineering, procurement and construction company.

Minimum of 12 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry with work experience in Africa, Middle-East, Europe, Asian-Pacific and North-America.

Lead role in engineering with a span control of at least 10 people

International work experience outside of Canada with knowledge of the African engineering service market, especially the Nigerian – west African market, middle-east and Asian pacific market.

Experience in nurturing a start-up of engineering firm from inception to a high level of success.

Experience in leading field development plans and concept selection studies for surface facilities

Experience in equipment specification, procurement and testing; vessels, pumps, compressors, valves, and instruments for oil and gas industry as well as other industries.

Experience leading teams to Factory Acceptance Test of pumps, compressors, meters, instruments, etc. at manufacturer facilities

Experience in plant commissioning, operations and maintenance activities.

Ability to lead teams and manage construction activities

Ability to attract and retain key engineering talent

Experience working with international codes and standards for capital and small projects.

Competent status in networking and opportunity creation and retention.

Advanced level expertise in Microsoft Office, particularly MS Excel, MS PowerPoint and MS Word.

Must be goal and outcome-focused with the ability to manage multivariable, complex development projects

Job Duties

Determine the Company’s strategic direction, taking into account the company’s vision, mission, policies and key objectives.

Assume responsibility for the design, establishment and organization of major departments and associated staff positions.

Effectively allocate material, human and financial resources to implement organizational policies; establish financial and administrative controls; implement marketing/business development initiatives.

Recruit senior managers, senior engineers, learning consultants, and other key employees; delegate the necessary authority to them and ensure an engaged and motivated workforce.

Represent the organization, or delegate representatives to act on behalf of the organization, in business development engagements, conferences, trade shows, negotiations, engineering peer review sessions with clients, Factory Acceptance Test of new Equipment for Clients, obtaining permits from regulators, or other official functions.

Implement and where necessary, provide improvements to the Company’s business plan.

Take overall responsibility for the company’s engineering consulting services, including client acquisition and client service – research, execution and quality assurance.

Assume overall responsibility for the company’s training services, including developing course curricula, client acquisition and delivery of training services, in line with the company’s business plan.

Maintaining positive and trust-based relations with clients, service providers, bankers and other stakeholders.

Overseeing the company’s operations, financial performance and employee relations.

Designing and implementing all marketing and business development initiatives.

Negotiating agreements with internal and external stakeholders.

Overseeing and managing budgets.

Managing administrative tasks related to client service – time-reporting, invoicing, ensuring prompt collection of receivables, liaison with bank(s), etc.

Ensuring effective communication of and compliance with Company policies and statutory obligations.

Building and enhancing the company’s public profile at events, speaking engagements, etc.

Work hours: 9am – 5pm every business day (including 1-hour break); but may also be required to work extra hours to fulfil the job duties.

Vacation: 20 days of paid vacation annually.

  • Bonus: Performance-based bonuses would be paid based on the candidate achieving agreed operational and financial performance indicators in the business plan.
